20’s, White, woman. Cute, kind, and naive. A Norwegian woman traveling to the United States to visit her fiancée, Samantha, in Hawaii. Nervous and somewhat naive about visa requirements, she is detained upon arrival. Jo is caring and compassionate, shown through her concern for her mother and her interactions with Macy in the detention center. LEAD

20’s, all ethnicities, woman. Voice Over. Pictures with Lead. Beautiful, cool – Jo’s fiancée living in Hawaii. Appears only through phone conversations, expressing excitement about their upcoming reunion and wedding plans. She is supportive and reassuring. SUPPORTING, VOICE OVER (AND PICTURES)

[ MACY ]
30 to 40 years old, all ethnicities, woman. Very important character. Skinny, missing teeth, childlike but with a worn face from years of battering and drug use. A fellow detainee who befriends Jo, providing comfort during their ordeal. She shares her struggles with addiction and custody battles, offering perspective and levity with her comedy and unexpected kindness. Role requires some special FX makeup: role will wear heavy makeup to appear skinny and like a drug addict. She will also use a tooth plate to make it look like she’s missing a tooth. SUPPORTING

30’s, Hispanic. Man. Chubby, with character, very comfortable with himself, thinks he is funny. Comedic background preferred. A fellow passenger on Jo’s flight who offers advice on navigating the immigration process. More experienced with travel, he reassures Jo with a cynical humor. SUPPORTING

[ REEHAN ]
30’s. Indian. Man. Handsome young professional. He’s detained at the airport, sharing his experiences and frustrations with Jo. Provides insight into the systemic issues within airport security. SUPPORTING

[ OFFICER NUNEZ ]
40 to 50 years old, BIPOC, man. Clean-cut, deadpan, cynical, almost rude but professional. The immigration officer who questions Jo upon arrival. Grumpy and uninterested, he contributes to Jo’s discomfort and anxiety during the interrogation process. SUPPORTING

30 to 40 years old, BIPOC, man. Very important character. A harsh and confrontational immigration officer who interrogates Jo extensively. Hostile and aggressive, he belittles Jo and accuses her of deception. Speaks slightly broken English, adding intensity and volatility to his character. SUPPORTING

[ OFFICER STEVENSON ]
50 to 60 years old, White, man. Very important character. Another immigration officer involved in Jo’s interrogation. The only white officer, complicit in Jo’s mistreatment. Almost pleasant but intimidating, he exudes dark confidence and disgust towards her. SUPPORTING

[ OFFICER JOBE ]
30’s, BIPOC, woman. A female immigration officer enforcing strict rules and regulations. Stern and unsympathetic, she adds to the oppressive atmosphere of the immigration process. SUPPORTING

50’s, all ethnicities, woman. Not well-off, traveling back to her American husband after caring for her dying mother abroad for almost a year.
